Great vid Shedder! For me, it seems to be one of the more melancholy Sting performances since I have always interpereted that song as a tribute to Kenny Kirkland. To see Kenny up there playing and hear the lyics of that song at the same time is quite powerful for me.
If I can ever get my video capture stuff running again I will try to host some Soul Cages live videos for those who haven't seem them. Some of Vinnie's most incredible playing was captured during that show.
Enjoy is right!!! This has always been one of my personal faves, from my favourite Sting album. The whole CD illustrates perfectly,for me, exactly why Vinnie is so respected...this song is nearly 5 minutes and 30 seconds long, yet it's nearly 4 & a half minutes before Vinnie plays any thing other then a rock solid 2 & 4 - class - sheer class ( can't really hear Dave W doing this in quite the same way?!)has anyone seen the South bank Special from 1996, filmed around the recording of Mercury Falling at Sting's intimate country retreat? It's a great look at the whole process - only 50 minutes long. BUT- the intiguing thing for me are the snippets of works in progress - among them this song. It's shown as a very raw groove with no embellishments( gosple chpoir, big production etc)...the tantalising thing is that the band(Sting, Vinnie,( who burns a feel so intense and deep, Kenny & Dominic) start to really cook up an intense groove - then the producer fades this out, just as it starts to sound great, in favour of some meaningful words from Gordon!!!There must be unused, pre-edit footage somehwere of the studio sessions - if they were to surface - well, absolute gold!!!
Good performance for sure... but does Vinnie even touch any of his three splashes at all!?
John, where did you see this Mercury Falling video? That is one of my all-time fave albums... I would love to see it. Any good Vinnie footage? Do you know if it's on DVD or online?
